Hi again Kim. If you've checked the database since posting your last comments, you'll know that Franklin's Moral Pictures does derive from the collection of maxims made by Benjamin Franklin in his Poor Richard's Almanac. "Don't cry over spilt milk" seems to be the adage illustrated in the scene of the distraught milkmaid with her overturned bucket. The other one is harder. I've been reading some of Franklin's morals online and so far haven't come up with anything that fits in other than a very general way.
As for your big floral platter, you're right that transferware was often painted to enhance it. There are a lot of examples in the database. Having said that, I'm not able to identify the pattern or maker on your piece. No doubt the information will come to light eventually! Len
