Hi Jim
Johnson Bros were major manufacturers and in 1968 became part of the Wedgwood Group. Their Windsor Ware was made from the 1940s until the early 1970s (stopped not long after they joined the Wedgwood Group. The Windsor Ware name is simply a trade name and was used on wares made exclusively for the Fisher Bruce Company in Philadelphia, which imported large quantities in many different patterns. Some wares had the pattern name on and others did not.
I think what you have there is one (or more?) of the Wild Turkeys pattern printed in brown with added color? There are three variants: a single standing bird usually known as Native American, two standing birds known as Woodland and a single flying bird known as Flying! There was also a green with color version of the Woodland. It sounds as if some of your pieces have the pattern name on the back?
A limited range of pieces was made in all three versions, which is maybe where the limited edition idea came from, but Wild Turkeys was in production from 1951 to 1974, so not exactly rare. The 174050 may be a US Reg Pat number? Fisher Bruce registered a lot of the designs they imported.
Regards
Andrew
