Linked are images of two ceramic sherds from an archaeological site in Natchitoches, Louisiana, that I have not been able to identify . Both are quite distinctive and I am hoping someone will recognize them. The first is a transfer-printed blue, pearlware saucer (left) with no maker’s mark; the other, a transfer-printed brown, early whiteware plate that was enameled with red and green (right). The second sherd has a partial maker’s mark. The first line of the mark ends in “. . . SE,” presumably a pattern name ending with “rose.” The second line ends with a “. . . D.” Best guess is that the first sherd dates 1790-1830 and the second circa 1830–1840. Any and all help in identifying these two patterns or their makers would be greatly appreciated.
