Hi Mary,
What an amazing collection you have of this pattern! I haven't seen the pattern, so what little I know is from two printed sources: Coysh and Henrywood's Dictionary of Blue and White Printed Pottery 1780-1880, Vol. I states on p. 282 that it is "a horse hunting scene with a border composed of equestrian vignettes, which was printed in blue and sepia. The mark gives the maker's name as 'Shaw's', and this pattern is almost certainly the one registered on 8th August, 1853 by Anthony Shaw of Tunstall." Reference is made to Petra Williams' Staffordshire Romantic Transfer Patterns (Vol. 1), p. 516 where the pattern is illustrated and described. Neither reference shows a printed mark. As general editor of the TCC Database of Patterns, I would certainly welcome individual photos of some of your pieces to enter in the database. Are there variations in the pattern on different shaped pieces? If so, an example of each would be most welcome. A plate or platter are preferred as those pieces tend to show the pattern in its entirety more than hollowware pieces. Thank you for showing us this lovely collection!
