The following (slightly edited on my part) was transmitted by email; two photos will be posted by our web master. We need help in identifying the maker.
I have a CANTON GARDEN purple transferware Staffordshire footed (wash?) bowl ca. 1830? I purchased it at auction in Scotland and have been searching for more information. Skinners had a plate of same pattern (Lot 800) but my email to them for more info or even WHICH auction in which it was sold did not produce a meaningful answer. No chips or cracks. The transfer around the bowl was not laid out evenly which is a great example of the design medium. Attached are some pics of the footed bowl... diameter is 9 inches and 4 inches tall. The interior of the bowl has large flowers with a garden trellis off center to the right with a classical urn in front of it.
So, I share photos with you for your database... and I hope that in return you might be able to answer these questions for me:
1) WHO made it?
2) Is ca. 1830 a valid date?
