Very interested when I found your site. Wonderful resource. Thank you Michael for this great site for sharing family history.
After researching some of my father's family lineage and confirming from some old family notes (to my surprise), they indicate my Dads family name was originally Tormey. My father always told me, as a child, his grandfather lived on Chicken Lane in Dublin and I recently found a Peter Tormey (my great grandfather's and his father's name) on Chicken Lane in the Griffiths Valuation. I have some info on the (large) Clan moving to the States. I believe under the name of Toomey. Many of the branches of the Toomey Clan, including our family, left Ireland just before the end of the civil war around 1865/64 and have been in the Chicago area for over 140 years. Some lived near Rochester NY I believe, one brother Joe moved to Canada. I am now stuck and wondering what other sources I can use to investigate my great grandfather's lineage in Ireland?
Also if there are any Tormeys out there that match some Dublin Tormeys?
My Uncle, who is now, 90 believed his grandfather was born in Cork City, but I am not sure if it is correct.
