I have been unsuccessfully searching for any relatives of Margaret Tormey who was born in Ireland, the daughter of Brigid (Bridget?) who was married to a Tormey (first name unknown). Margaret, her sister Ellen, and their parents emigrated to the United States in or around 1865. Ellen was born in Ireland in 1863, Margaret was the older sister so was more than likely born in Ireland too. Mr. Tormey died in NY shortly after arriving in the States. Brigid remarried a German pharmacist named Joseph Sur, and they had a son. At some point Margaret left home and married. All contact with her was lost over the years. Ellen Tormey (my great-grandmother) married Wilhelm Jaenike in the mid 1880's and had 9 children, 7 survived to adulthood....Alfred (possibly named for his maternal grandfather), William, Helen, Herbert, Harry, Grace, and Jane(my grandmother)(b1905 d.1982). They grew up in upper Manhattan. Ellen Tormey Jaenike died in 1917 and is buried at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Westchester, NY. Her children moved to Brooklyn in 1927, and scattered around the NYC area. None ever had any contact with their Aunt Maggie. It's as if she married and fell off the face of the earth. All I know of her marriage is that her husband's last name may have been Gologaphy (or some such variation). All relatives of mine with any first hand knowledge are long gone. If any of you Tormeys have an ancestor named Maggie Tormey who had a sister named Ellen, and a half brother named Joseph or William Sur and lived in upper Manhattan (Harlem area) in the 1860's or there about please contact me....The rest of the family is looking for you.
