Friends, no... but the sex is great with someone of the opposite sex after you've obliterated one another with the queen! Yeah, you know who you are
Actually, I've made some good online friends and a few offline as well from playing hearts. The ones who of course, are mature and respect and understand the purpose of the game and a winning strategy.
Playing poker for money with friends, on the other hand, is a really, really bad idea, regardless of the stakes.

: In a conversation with another hearts player
: (will leave this annonymous for privacy
: sake), who shared with me this thought:
: Hearts is not a game conducive to making
: friends. She explained what she meant.
:
: In hearts, especially low man but even in
: general, alliances form and disolve quickly.
: You can play a shifting game of 3-vs-1, and
: sometimes you may get the Queen so often you
: are sure you are being picked on. She
: recalled a game of hearts played in real
: life where it literally brought tears to
: someone's eyes how often this person was hit
: with the Queen. Hearts can really be quite
: the ruthless game!
:
: Key to survival here is to separate out your
: personal feelings from the game. Many
: people come here to TOP feeling like they
: are playing with friends, yet then we battle
: in this cruel match, and come out and are
: still friends. Sometimes, though, we come
: out of these games wondering why our friends
: treated us so badly.
:
: Recognize it's the game, not the people!
: Hardly a one of us has never come out of a
: game ticked off or feeling betrayed. This
: is the game of hearts, and it's unavoidable.
: There is no way to play "friendly
: hearts" where this never happens and
: still be playing hearts. Everyone at your
: table is against you, unless you can help
: them somehow.
:
: When the game is over, those roles are shed
: and should be left at the table. Then it's
: up to each and every one of us to decide how
: we relate to the others who play here....
: are we still mortal enemies out to attack
: each other, or are we friends who like to
: engage in this competitive battle for fun?
: I prefer to keep the battling in the game,
: myself.
:
: Just know that in the game, I may give you
: the Queen. It doesn't mean I don't like
: you.
