Actually it has nothing to do with whether people have 1 or 12 nics... when the same people make the EOM final 4 it will mathematically reduce the number of qualifiers regardless of what nic is played under.
That's not the real problem being solved here. The problem is what to do when the number of people arriving to play EOY is not evenly divisible by 4. According to the standing rules, those 1-3 last qualified people who show up are denied a table. The rules specificially mention that this is a fact and to show up early.
My understanding of Lee's proposal isn't to expand the field of qualifiers as I hear being suggested (including leaderboard champs) but to allow people to fill those spots.... like human bots.
Had I felt free to deviate from the standing rules this past EOY, I would have set the final table with myself playing. However, I would have taken myself out of eligibility for the final round. I think we simply should allow volunteer players to play to fill the final table with that understanding.... that they are not qualified for the final round regardless of their point total.
This suggestion has the least deviation from the original rules concerning EOY qualifications as possible while accepting all qualified players who show up without being unfair to those same qualified players.
