For new players, now that registration is no longer required, I have come up with a condensed guide to the TOP tourney that can be read quickly before the start of the match.
WHAT IS TOP? TOP is a social gathering of people who love to play regular hearts. We play starting at 9pm ET every night but Saturdays. Though we play in a tournament format, enjoyment of the game should take higher regard than the competitive nature of the format. Be competitive, play to win, but we do not accept abusive behavior in our tourneys.
We play three rounds of regular hearts (no SPOT hearts, pards, or jack of diamond). The first round is 200 points, and the semifinal and final rounds are to 100 points. The tournament director/host will indicate who advances to the next round, which may involve "wilds". Please listen for the TD to announce advancing players and seat tables. Game leaders should set tables according to the TD's instructions and ensure the players are the correct ones before starting the game.
We keep a leaderboard on the TOP website. It is important to play the same nic all month for all your points to accumulate under one total. The top 16 players on the list qualify for the end-of-month tournament. Points accumulate each game according to the following positions: 1st place = 10, 2nd place = 7, 3rd place = 4, 4th place = 1.
