I showed him how to hold the rifle (a 32 caliber flint longrifle), and he was given the basic safety rules and range precautions. I loaded it the first time for him, then let him shoot. His first shot was a low 5 at 25 yards, but Muskrat offered some coaching and his next shot (the 2nd shot he's ever taken) was a 10! Maybe even a 10X at that! I had to replace the flint after a few shots, and the ramrod end came off once, but this guy is a SHOOTER!
The light trigger pull caused him to put one shot over the target and into the backstop, but of the other 22 shots he fired, 4 were out of the scoring rings, 3 were in the white, and the other 15 were in the black. His last 3 shots were a cloverleaf in the 8 ring. Mind you, he's firing from offhand all the while.
I could not leave the parking lot without promising he could come to next month's shoot also. I think he's hooked.
