Instead, I like to take my Brown Bess to the range on the 4th and let it do what it's supposed to do. I accidently grabbed a can of 3Fg instead of 2Fg, so I lowered my powder charge somewhat. I set the measure for about 83 grains, and was amazed how well she shot! At 25 yards, one group of 5 shots went only 3 inches, which isn't rifle accuracy, but of course it isn't a rifle.
Even when I went to rapid fire mode, which is only about 35 seconds per bareball shot, and aiming was only pointing at the black of the target, every shot hit the paper. I was happy as a lark today.
And even with big powder charges and BIG roundball (.715" was my choice), my whole range expense was about 12 bucks!
