Before the days of Austin and Halek, when Ted was making this rifle, I had an opportunity to test fire it at Friendship. Ed Cain had one in stock for a demonstrator and he took me to the silhouette range and I shot a round with the gun. I think I wound up with a 15 or 16, which ain't bad, especially for me. I was pleased with the performance of the rifle, but it sure didn't fit me very well. After the session, I felt like I had just taken a good whuppin' from someone. Shoulder was bruised, cheek bone was real sore, and had a bruise there as well.
Bottom line from me is they are accurate shooting rifles, and if the design fits you, it's a keeper. Else, I doubt if it would stay around too terribly long.
The price seems reasonable. The MSR was $539 and a 100% gun is listed at $495 in the 4th Edition of Modern Black Powder Arms. The Hatfield is listed at 575 for a 100% gun, for comparrison sake.
