The worst drag I ever had was a moderate distance, but through standing corn. The farmer had just picked about a dozen rows, with a three-row picker. I shot a huge doe (the tape called her 206 pounds) and she died in the corn. I knew that if I field dressed her in the corn, that little bitty corn picker would grab the gut pile, and I'd never be welcome on that land again. So I had to drag her entire carcass out, and then man handle (all alone) the body into the back of my Escort station wagon. I wound up field dressing her in my garage. And a cop drove by while I was working her over, and had to satisfy himself that I wasn't butchering some dead human.
I think that's the night I fell back in love with squirrel hunting.
