Welcome on board. What part of Idaho do you live in. Your mentioning that you had drawn an elk tag makes me think it is the southern part? When I lived around Coer d'Alene, we just bought elk tags and we drew for moose tags.
Cheney rifles were made around SLC, Utah by a fellow named Mark Cheney. He was a pretty talented gun builder. I guess he made rifles in the 1980's. I think around 1990, he was out of business and his brother sold the remaining stuff to Mountain State and Deer Creek. After Mtn State went out of the scene, then Deer Creek kept on with doing whatever they were doing with them. At this point, I would assume not much.
Anyway, you do have a good, solid rifle. They shot well and looked good. Other than that, I cannot think of anything else. It has been a while.
