The squirrel season for us in Southern Illinois opens August 1st. Not many young folks hunt squirrels which was my favorite game animal during my high school days, taking amany of them with a single shot .22. I have a .25 caliber flintlock made by Sitting Fox that arrived last fall that I'm looking forward to trying as soon as they start cutting hickory nuts. I'll probably take my .54 smoothbore flintlock with some #5s or #6s after them for the first week or so. Time to add some bushytale meat to the freezer to go along with the 140# of blueberries that my wife and I picked last week.
