Tele, don't know if you're interested in alternative history/sci-fi novels but you might want to check out a series of books written by Eric Flint and David Weber. The series starts with the title 1632, and goes from there, 1633, 1634-The Baltic War, 1634-the Galileo Conspiracy, etc. Basic premise is that a small West Virginia town is transported back to the Germanic States during the Thirty Years War. Very well written and gives a good history of the times but then goes off as to what could have happened if modern Americans were transported back then.
You can get the books cheap from abebooks.com. shipping is usually more than the cost of the books, even the hardcover ones.
