After finally finding a Dixie Gun Works Tennessee Mountain Rifle in 50 caliber, I was anxious to get it to the range. I cleaned it up and while cocking it, the sear broke. I haven't even fired a shot with it and now I have to get it fixed. I took the lock off and determined the very tip of the sear broke off causing the hammer to not stay cocked.
Today I called DGW and inquired about a replacement part. They have one for a left hand model, but are out of sears for a right handed model. They do not have any other sear that will serve as a substitute. They do have a complete replacement lock for $129.95. I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet. I am really disappointed. My "dream gun" is currently nothing but a wall hanger...
Any suggestions?
