I have found that using a water based lube for range work is probably the best solution.
In my .62 cal rifle, I use probably about twice the powder charge for plinking that you were. And I shoot until "I" want to wipe the bore, not until the gun demands that I wipe the bore.
Just my 2% of a dollar.
