I saw Norm/Ohio this afternoon. He showed me the 22 caliber ML pistols he mentioned here a couple weeks ago. Fascinating pieces: one is flint, the other uses percussion caps. The barrels are lined to 22 caliber. I don't know quite how that's done, but it seems to work fine. The projectiles are 22 caliber slugs, coated with a synthetic lube; I'd guess they are about 35 to 40 grains.
My impression of pistol shooters at Friendship are that they are a very intense bunch, and they love gadgets. They were the first group to welcome me to Friendship several years ago.
On Saturday I attended a presentation on the breechloading flintlock rifle the British fielded during the American Revolution. I got to shoot it twice at some clangers, and am glad to say I hit them both times. It shoots a .615 RB, coated with a beeswax-tallow mixture. It's leaf sights were regulated to 350 yards.
The Ferguson also stikes me as a gadget intense weapon of colonial times. Where would we be without somebody saying "Hmmm, what if.....?"
