I had cut a cleaning patch a little too small I guess, and it slipped off the jag (it was a dry patch) at the breech of my Brown Bess, lost in the maw of that 75 caliber cave. I tried a worm. No luckI tried a patch puller, designed for about a 50 caliber. No luck. I tried making a patch puller out of thin wire. No luck.
Then, the answer occurred to me! A perfect solution! DUCT TAPE!!!!
I put the cleaning jag back on the rod, and that big flat surface was just the place to put a cut-to-size and rolled up piece of duct tape. One pass down the barrel, jam it down good and hard on the patch on the breech, and viola! Out it came.
Sometimes I'm so smart it makes my head hurt. For example, I'm going to measure that patch and never cut one that small for Bess again.
