A deer's skin is tremendously resilient. Balls frequently are found just under the skin on the opposite side. The ball hits the hide and will stretch it out without puncturing it, rebound with the skin, and there it remains. That being said, 80 to 100 grains of powder will certainly increase the probability of a through and through.
Oh, save the ball someplace so you can see and feel it when the urge hits you. Or melt it down and re-cast it and kill another one with it. And write down your experience in detail so you can remember it years from now. I just found my notes of killing my biggest deer, and found my memory had failed me in a few important details.
