Posted by Dave Rinehart Sunday morning Steve and I headed out. It rained most of the night, so we did not expect the streams to go down. We were not disappointed. Anyway the Chagrin was high and chocolate colored, the Ashtabula was chocolate and over the banks, and the Conneaut was the same. As we drove over the Elk on I90, it was chololate and high, so we kept going to the Mile creeks. Nine mile was perfect. We fished it for a couple hours and found there were no fish, except for the last two holes, and only a couple in each hole. I hooked two and lost them and Steve hooked two and lost them also. I did hook another one that came in backwards, so I did land one fish! We called it the "Michigan Landing", that's the philosophy where no one asks at the end of the day how you hooked, they just want to know how many fish you landed. Well, I landed one! The other hole had four guys fishing it, which is twice the respected number, so we left. Twelve Mile was high and chocolate, but we fished it a little while before we too gave up in discust. No one stayed there very long, and no one saw a fish or hooked up. So on to the next creek and it was even higher and muddier (if that’s possible). Ran into a local who had come from 20 Mile creek. It too was too high and off-color to fish. So the report is there are very, very, very few fish and no weather in the offing that would suggest that there will be any coming in within the next ten days. The creeks have a little opening into the pack ice on the Lake, but the Lake is covered with ice as far as you can see. All this would lead you to believe that the “run” will not start till the beginning of April or so. That ought to result in some rather spectacular fishing, as no one is reporting any Manistees to date. Maybe they will run into mid or even late May? Or maybe it will be a late start and an early end? Everything is weather dependent. So for this weekend, tie flies and hope for some warmth! Happy Easter

Went to the Steelheaders Ball Saturday night and had a reasonably good time, though it was not as good as last years. Saw Ober and Mario there who reported that all the Ohio streams were high and chocolate, and PA streams were crowded.
