Posted by Dave Rinehart We walked from Folly’s to Platz Road. Numbers of fish decreased as we went further upstream. Almost nothing at Platz Road. And again, PINK sucker spawn was the winner of the day. Larry might have got more fish, but he doesn’t tie and I am stingy with my pinks. Oh yea, the rod works perfect. It has a med-fast action and I like slow; but it landed 14 fish. From 7 to 9 pounds was the average of the day. Larry landed maybe 12 fish. Maybe. Anyway, my water bottle froze half way through the day, so you know it was cold. Thank the Lord my Heineken didn’t freeze! Woke up in the middle of the night with leg cramps that lasted about 5 minutes. This getting old is not fun. Catching 14 Steelhead in one day is fun. Throw pink.

Cabin fever became too much. Could not find anyone to go fishing, then Larry Cain called to say his wife told him to get out of the house! So, the plans were laid. We drove to the Elk at Folly’s, put silicone treatment on the guides and went fishing. I recently purchased the new Orvis Travel Rod, 7-pieces, 8 Wt. I laughed at the rod till I learned John Turex and George McCabe had purchased one. So I now have a back-up rod that will fit in my briefcase (or luggage). Anyway, we went to Folly’s and started upstream. Water was low, and got lower all day. Larry was kicking my but on fish till we got to the Rinehart-Grady Secret Hole. It was filled with 8 and 9 pound fish, mostly chrome or fresh fish. I kicked his but then and was on top for the rest of the day.
