Steve and I decided to fish PA the Friday after Thanksgiving. We drove over the Ashtabula and it was screaming. We stopped at Conneaut and it was about 18 inches too high to fish, so we drove to Folley's and the water was perfect.
Only problem was that cars were parked all the way out to the road! The report was that there were no fresh fish above Folley's and mixed fish below. Having gotten a verbal from Rick Johnson the previous week that there were relatively few fish at Girard City Park we decided to drive over to the other side of Erie and fish the mile creeks. After all, gas was $1.61/gallon.
First mile creek we checked was already loaded with fishermen. The second was 16-Mile Creek, and there were way too many fishermen, but it was a holiday so we put on our gear and started at the Lake and worked our way up to the bridge. Not too many fish and we never got to wet out lines and there were at least two fishermen per hole. Walking back, we lucked out and the two or three fishermen at the concrete wall left as we arrived.
Most fishermen were not wearing polaroid sun glasses, so they would walk right by fish. And the fish were fresh, so they were doubly hard to see.
We jumped in the spot and stayed all day. Steve high-sticked it all day and had one of his better days, landing at least 14 fish! I used a float most of the day and never landed a fish till I resorted to high-sticking it too. I think I landed four.
Steve bought dinner.
Remind me to start high-sticking it more.
