Posted by Dave Rinehart We drove to Harpersfield on the Grand and hit all the spots that hold steelhead. Nothing. Couldn’t even get a sucker, let alone a carp. Neither one of us saw a fish. So, . . . . off to Conneaut. Walked down stream to the beginnings of the creek. We did see one steelhead in the creek alongside the rail road tracks. The mouth of the creek is now one big delta a three hundred feet wide, the small island is still there and a hundred feet of delta on the other side. No sense in ever going back there again. There is no creek. It just turns into a delta. Then Charles had the bright idea to get his PA license. So off the Elk Creek Sports store to get his PA license. We drove down Rt. 5 and the state has put up the NO PARKING signs again. Drat. So we drive to the state boat dock at the mouth of Elk Creek. We put on our gear and headed up stream. I did well with a skinny Clauser Minnow pattern. Hooked and landed several nice brown trout about 10-12 inches long and lots and lots of Carp. Hooked about 4 or 5 that went 7 pounds. Had Charles take a picture of one of them. I must have landed about two dozen carp. More than half were fair hooked with a Clauser. About a third were foul hooked. I saw a couple of them chase the Clauser. Neat sight! Charles told others that he only saw me catch one large carp. . . . . . You know the rest of that story. As Charles tells the story, he landed about 18 little browns on a black ant. He even asked me if I had floatant with me. I told him I never used it on steelhead flies, and we were here to steelhead. I only saw him land one brown. So you know the rest of that story. The moral of the story is don’t take Charles steelhead fishing in the spring. He’s liable to bring dry flies too. Oh yea, neither one of us ever caught a steelhead that day. And neither one of us caught a small mouth either. Was a beautiful day on the stream.

Charles and I decided Friday evening to hit the creeks on Saturday to see if there were any steelhead left in the creeks. Well, after a margarita and a bottle of good red, he claimed he was in no shape to drive Saturday morning. So after he threw me out of the house at some ungodly hour in the morning, I showed up back at his house at @ 7 AM.
