I hear that.
Oh man, what a tactical error on my part by telling my mother that I'm getting a phone line. Now she said I should get a phone and she would like my number.
This didnt occur to me. I just mentioned it in reference to broadband.
Oh man. Bad news. Its really unpleasant.
I remember when I lived in Rhode Island she would call every couple of days. I didnt talk to her that much when I lived with her, but when I was away she called all the time. I really dreaded when the phone rang.
Its fine now when I just call her using Skype every week or two. Its not bad. I have a few things to say and when there's nothing on tv I can call. No problem.
But if she had my phone number, the calls wouldnt end. I really dodged a bullet when she was incapable of reaching my mobile number. She concluded that you cant reach UK mobiles from the US, but Wang was able to call.
So then I tried to mitigate things by saying that I dont plan on getting a phone but if she ever got the internet, we'd be able to talk to Skype on free. But I'm online EVERY SECOND OF THE DAY when I'm home. I'd have to then turn Skype off and only turn it on when maybe I'd be interested in talking and that opens up a whole other area.
You know, its perfectly fine as it is now and I'm standing firm on this. I'm an adult and I'm not going to be guilted into getting a phone or talking on Skype because I know she will call far too often.
I dont even understand the appeal. I'm the most boring converasationalist on earth. It's disinterested "uh huh"'s to whatever she's saying with occassional rants against London's ghettos or work or whatever which are meandering and puzzling to the listener.
Its just really bad. "Oh, you can buy a phone. They're really cheap and I can call you then".
Well, thats the problem. And then when I suggested she get the internet so we can talk on Skype for free. OH MAN. What was I thinking? She said she was going to get it after Christmas. I fear that's going to become a reality.
#### it. I'm going to search the internet for ways to deal with pushy parents.
