A Gallup poll from 2005 found that:
So over half of people in the U.S., a majority, and one in three people in the U.K., a substantial minority, are effectively homophobic.
While a 2008 Guardian poll found that:
So you have just under half to just over half of people living in the U.K. wanting to deny same sex couples the same rights that 'straight couples' enjoy. This is homophobic in effect, if not necessarily in intent. People want to see same sex couples discriminated against on the basis of their sexuality.
Again, the U.S. and U.K. are kidding themselves if they don't think they have a pretty big problem with homophobia, or if they think that these things are exclusively confined to 'moslem cultures'.
