The West has an intellectual, moral, cultural tradition. Britain played a crucial role in salvaging those from the rise of Bolshevism, fascism, Nazism and Maoism etc.

In my experience, liberals are actually prone to coming out with arguments like yours, rather than arguments like mine. They'll say that, as a religion, Islam is inherently sexist, homophobic, repressive, etc, and so stands in opposition to liberal enlightenment values. Hence, it has no place in liberal, englightened Europe.
In your experience whilst out jogging you mean? There is of course a traditional of liberal thinking that seeks to uphold all of the post-Enlightenment benefits to our society you list. Fine and dandy. The problem here is that those of progressive disposition find themselves all too often confined to such an unambitious agenda and rhetoric in their laudible attempts to stave of racism. More and more millions of immigrants equals more and more anti-racist liberalism, I'm afraid. Plus more and more anti-Western terrorism and illiberalism to boot.
An article from the Independent Working Class Association website from a year or so ago, which as I recall had some rather good points. I am willing to accept that some people receive so much psychological reward from their committed anti-racism that dogma becomes a needs must.
