All that time Megson was saying realistic things like, "We can't really compete against the big boys," to the cameras. When you came out of the Prem you'd spent a not inconsiderable amount of cash on some players who took too long to get it together and you'd had nine months of 'will-we-or-won't-we'. All that time Jones was saying, "If only so-and-so had done such-and-such," to the cameras. The players who were available twelve months ago looked at Megson and saw a manager who had realistic expectations. I know which TEAM you'd rather play for, but take off your orange-coloured glasses for a moment and tell me which MANAGER you'd rather play for? Told you you wouldn't like it, but that's the way I see it. --Previous Message--
You're not going to thank me for this, but I'm going to make a comparison yourselves and your neighbours (or at least between the situation you find yourselves in and the situation your neighbours were in twelve months ago):
The players available now look at Jones and see a bloke who will put the blame squarely on them if things go pear-shaped.
: Where are all the Summer signings? I remember
: Jonesy saying that he wanted everything in
: place by the time the team reports back for
: Pre-season training - on MONDAY!
: All we've heard of so far is Duberry and a
: few other players who are more likely to go
: to Premiership clubs than 'Championship'
: clubs.
: Although it might not be to popular, I'd
: rather see some signings for older
: Premiership players (Sheringham, Parlour etc)
: who can guide the younger ones back into the
: Premiership. With the return of Ndah, Lecott
: and Murray, we have 3 'new' signings anyway.
: What does everyone else think?
