When an Officer sides with inmates and tells them they don’t have to do what that officer tells them, it is the first sign of an officer going to the wrong side. Unfortunately I have seen this happening. There has been so many violent incidents toward officers lately it has to stop. Officers need to start supporting each other. Any reasonable order given to an inmate by an officer should be supported by other officers and the administration. Stop acting like these inmates are your friends. They only want what they can get out of you. If that is pitting you against other officers for their own desires you have lost focus.

You are right. Everything you said is spot on. Weak officers, weak kitchen staff, weak maintenance staff, weak Windham Staff, weak UTMB staff, weak supervisors and weak administrators have been a problem since long before I hired on in 1986.
Inmate rights advocates and inmate sympathizers run this agency and have for a very long time. You never hear an agency administrator, or a board member speak out against the parole of a high profile, hardcore, violent felon. The agency even places emphasis on “informal resolution” of disciplinary cases. A lot of cases end up in the trash can. Others are resolved with a simple talking to.
The funny thing is the agency wants to reduce uses of force, but they unwilling encourage force, when they toss out cases. Officers get frustrated, when a thug continues to disrespect them, with no consequences, whatsoever. Eventually the officer snaps and it’s boom boom slam slam time. “T Bone” “Feetwood”, “June Bug” and “Bobble Wobble” get their felonious butts kicked.
