What's up with inservice DOWN AT ROSHARON i've been hearring it"s full of bugs and the officers are having to sit in filth. The bathrooms aren't working half the time and they stay filthy. I know the last 2 years I went to J-4 and that place was spotless we had small classes. The instructors treated us like vetern offices and not like a bunch of drive ups. Now GC says we have to go to that shit hole down at Ramsey. If it is F##ked as everyone has been saying ya'll need to start putting that paper in their life and if that don't work the houseing authority osha. They talk all that noise about core values and doing the right thing. They need to handle up on the training end of the deal. OH I also hear if they get a little Rain you're going to get you car stuck.THY
You know what the real problem is? Is that folks down here in the agency do not take an ounce of pride in their workplace.
If you took the time to come onto a message board to complain about the issue, one would logically assume you took some real action and contributed to the solution of the dirty facility.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say this isn't you.
Ever since I've joined this agency, I've heard nothing but complaining and whining about the issues facing this agency, but when they're provided the opportunity to make a change, take charge, and be a part of the solution, they're voice grows deathly silent all the sudden.
I hope you at least made the effort to report these issues to whoever in is command of the Rosharon training academy. I've seen the building myself, but never been inside, and I can only imagine what the rains bring in every year.
Stay Strong. The Core Values is what makes this agency.
Well youngster old school officers didn’t complain they just picked up a broom and cleaned up the place. If something needs to be done then do it don’t complain. We also took turns cleaning up the place after class.
I cannot speak as to the current conditions first hand, but if this is correct, someone needs to be held accountable. Accountability starts at the top. When I was teaching at the In-Service Training, The place was kept clean. Each day one unit was responsible for cleaning the classrooms, grounds inside the fence and the parking lot. But that was in 1986, 86, 87 and 88. Of course a few conditions applied then that do not seem to be there in this day and age. 1. We had pride in what we were doing. 2. Everyone wore uniforms every day and were inspected every day. 3. All the instructors were Captains and the Officers knew that they had been there, done that. Not, "Oh, two months ago you were doing the same thing as a CO III/IV that you are now telling us not to do." I will get off my soap box now. Thank you if you have read this.
TLS, it ain't like it used to be in the 80's. Right now they're dealing with having to hold classes in the clubhouse. The classes are too large, especially in light of there only being one restroom for ladies, and one for men. The last class I went too had somewhere close to 70 officers in the class. You may remember the driveway, and parking lot, at the clubhouse is gravel, and dirt. So, when it rains it gets muddy.
The two trailers they had for classrooms got destroyed in the big flood. The two trailers that were supposed to replace them aren't safe, and looked like they were going to fall down. So, they'll need to be replaced as well.
Luckily, Ramsey allowed our class to hold our classes in the Ramsey contact visitation for most of the days. So, it wasn't too bad. That was because a supervisors class was scheduled at the same time our class was. The supervisors held their classes in the clubhouse. The contact visitation area's of the Ramsey, Stringfellow, and CT Terrell units could probably all be utilized as classrooms if necessary. I know it was sure nice to be able to go to class at the Ramsey contact visitation.
It is a bad situation at the Ramsey training academy. Could it be better, with what they've got? yes, I believe so. For one, they could get at least two porta potti's at the clubhouse so folks who have to use the restroom can go. I doubt they would be that expensive. Second, some gravel thrown down and spread in the parking lot would help with the mud issue. Third, make the classes smaller. Fourth, utilize the contact visitation rooms of the three units close by for classes. And, for GC and HG, fifth, allow GC and HG officers to chose to go to J4 or Hightower. We were being allowed to do that before. And, for some reason they stopped it. Not sure why, as it doesn't make sense. It was helping our staff, and took some of the load off of Ramsey. It needs to go back to the way it was.
I'll say this about the training staff. They do the best they can with what they've got. They're not in charge of the budget, or renovations at the Ramsey training academy. Have there been some inexperienced folks promoted to sergeants there to instruct? Yes. They too are doing the best they can. They've also promoted some experienced staff to instruct there here lately. And, I hear they too are doing a good job. TDCJ admin, if you're listening, SUPPORT THEM. Give them the facilities they need to train effectively. At the moment the learning environment is pretty tough at the Ramsey academy. They could use your support, in any way you can.
I did not know about all the problems. All the original double wide trailers cost $60,000 each in 1984 when the contract was let. They were just above junk when new. I know about the Club House parking lot, I was at RII for 6 years. Many of the things then did not make sense and still do not. I could go on and on about this, but I will not. The only thing I can say is that if you are not in the Huntsville area, you will not get squat.
