Remember folks, all branches of Govt.are corrupt and when it comes to the Corrections game, they scrape the bottom of the barrel in attempts to fill the void. Once upon a time, we could "Handle Up" without fear of persecution and or prosecution. Now, the hands off approach is common place and as a result chaos prevails. It is simply put Checks and balance. If we don't have the ability to check their asses, there is no balance. In addition, the quality of Officers being hired has diminished dramatically. Now, it is all about ass kissing and catching out. Good ol boy system has always been there, but at least things got done. The agency is now flooded with weak bodied, weak minded individuals with no sense of loyalty and no common sense. Weak supervisors breeding weak Officers. For those few that are actually worthy of being called "Officer", wise up and seek employment elsewhere, such as US Customs or some other entity that actually values it's employees and pays a liveable wage. For those individuals considering employment at one of the short staffed, toilets don't waste your time. If no other reasonable options exist, consider doing 2 years and jump ship to greener pastures.Keep in mind that pay increases are far and few. When one does come about supposedly courtesy of the Union, it is met with increased Medical and living expenses. Good luck, God bless the true believers and damn the rest.

Man, is it really that miserable working for the state? I was considering hiring on as a CO but I think I will just keep job jumping in the oil fields. It's a dog fight but at least we are well paid and respected by our employers... Go rough necks...
