I'm not an admin. However, I was in your situation when my kids were smaller. I was the gang sergeant for HG and GC. I went to my warden, and I ended up giving my rank up to be a CO. There were no hard feelings at all. The warden was Bubba Humphrey. He understood, and helped me out. I think most wardens will understand. |
Later, when my situation was better I went up for another promotion, and got it. People(meaning admin) remember the job you do for them, the effort you put into your job. When your situation is such that you feel comfortable moving back up most admin will understand what happened and have no issue with you.
I've seen this situation with other supervisors as well. A personal friend of mine was a lieutenant, demoted to sergeant, and is now one of my lieutenants again. His work ethic and performance speak for themselves.
The bottom line is that you should do what's best for you and your family. The job pays the bills, but your family is forever. Your kids will always remember the time you spent with them.
