Foreign Recruits in TDCJ

Have observed during this past year in the Huntsville and surrounding area Units many recruits working in TDCJ Units from Africa mostly Nigerian who are not U.S. citizens are being recruited by TDCJ in Nigeria and being assigned to Region 1 and across TDCJ in large numbers.

Seems like this has caused a little talking on the board. Everyone had their opinion. I havent worked with any so I cant say how they are. In my opinion, if TDCJ was so short and good Texans did not want to work for our agency, maybe it was good they hired over there. If these folks have good work ethics, why not hire them. I do understand the language barrier can be difficult, but heck we have some nationals that have a hard time communicating with each other. I know from other types of buissnesses that folks from other countries appreciate work, and have excellent work ethics, they are greatful to be able to call America their new home, and have jobs that pay good. Any way we all had ancestors come from different parts of the world at one time or another. I know there will be some hatters out there, but this is my opinion.

TDCJ should only hire American citizens. It's bad enough that we are in a recession and many people are out of a job and need one bad, but to go off and recruit from another country is just plain stupid. Next thing you know we will have illegals from Mexico working for TDCJ on the radio saying (QUE???) when a riot breaks out because they can't speak English. Go back to where you came from illegals.

hey pendejo fedup, where is mexico? in asia, europe? no pendejo, it is in america. look, i was born, raise and fed here and served my country, the united states of America proudly. did you? i don' know and frankly don't care. worked for this agency for 33 years and at one time was the only mexican/american working at ellis back in 78. where were you pendejo? This kind of recruitment causes problems for a lot of reasons, but I would rather work with the officers whose native land is Africa, than the low class Americans that dominate TDCJ-ID at every level. Don't forget the Major at the Ramsey Academy. He will be a Warden in the near future too. International people already have and will continue to have a profound impact on TDCJ-ID. I think it would be a good idea to require offenders to learn Asian and African languages as a way of making it possible to hire low cost, highly qualified people to officers. Those that have a tax break, will see their checks go farther for the those earlier years of TDCJ-ID employment. I have been thinking of learning the dominant Nigerian language, so that I can better understand my supervisors.

You are an IDIOT. If you want to work with these africans, then move to Africa. I am sure that the U.S. will NOT miss you. These nigerians who went to the In-Service classes that I went to thought they should be treated like royalty. They kept disrupting the class by talking with each other in their UN AMERICAN language, then on the firing range, they couldnt shoot, and usually were the ones that got sent off the line by unsafe acts on the firing line. They need to learn how to speak ENGLISH, if not they can go back to africa along with you who wants to work with them.

Do you know how to speak asian or african? If so those are 2 places that you can move to in the world. If you come to AMERICA, you learn how to speak ENGLISH.

And for your informastion, AMERICANS are not low class as you say, it is your nigerian, african brothers who fit that category perfectly...

If they come to work and do the job it should not be an issue. I have worked with several of them that come to work and get the job done the right way.

Aren't their loin cloths a little distracting? No offense or anything. I'm just not sure why they're not considered for executive administrative positions. I guess they're good enough to be CO's, but not good enough to get into the "Good Ole' Boys" club.

True TDCJ has used Foreign recruits from Nigeria in years past but due to the economy TDCJ has been assigning them to the more northern regions and lying to them saying critically short units are the only jobs available.

Wake up and smell the aliens - this is NOT new. The TDCJ has been doing this for at least 15-years if not longer. If that's not scary enough for you, many of them have become citizens and been promoted into positions of influence, i.e. Warden Negbenebor.

IT IS VERY DANGEROUS TO WORK AROUND THEM THEY CAN SPEAK ENGLISH VERY WELL- CNNT UNDERSTAND THEM ON THE RADIO- WHEN THEY GET SCARED YOU REALLY HAVE TROUBLE TALKING. TDCJ SHOULDNT HIRE PEOPLE FROM OTHER COUNTRIES AND A WOMEN. NEITHER HAVE THE ABILITY TO HANDLE THE JOB.

Saw a savvy counsel substitute plead their case at inmate disciplinary hearing after the charging officer could not be understood at the hearing. The Captain (DHO) really had no option but Not Guilty. Interesting....It was obvious that the inmate probably did not understand the order given. Inmate had no history of such and in the end the DHO probably did the right thing.

TDCJ as we know will do anything to save a buck including some Alien workers as Officers who cannot be understood in some cases and often times neither can the offenders. How can an offender respond to a direct order and the Alien officer cannot be understood even by his own coworkers and cases have to be thrown out wasting time and money.

Really, Concerned, that is some very adult and modern thinking on your part. Except for the fact that I know quite a few Officers, and Supervisors and Administrators who are women who handle the job better than some of the males that I have worked with. I have also worked around a few of the people from other countries, and one thing I noticed about them, they have some work ethic. Never had a problem with a language barrier. Are you sure that they are dangerous to work aound or are you?

If you work on TDCJ and say that you have never had a language barrier with the Alien Nigerian Officers than you must be a supervisor and it makes no difference to you.

Some Alien guest workers are hired without meeting minimum speaking standards and that can get someone hurt and thats my main point. In some States guest workers are illegal in Criminal Justice Agencies unfortunately Texas takes low cost shortcuts which can get people hurt or killed.

There are a whole lot of folks who need to learn how to use a radio. A lot of radio traffic at my unit is unintelligible or it is hollered as if something big is going down, and no none of them are foreign nationals.
