Jim Willett is a decent and honorable person. I was proud to work with him and would do it again any day. Until you have worked a few executions, don't throw stones in your glass house.

As a former CO and Sgt. and now as a EMT, I will speak from experience in dealing with death and stressfull situations. I have seen and said some maybe inapporpriate comments after it is over. This is precisely what was said above. It isnt just Hollywood making it up for a coldhearted bastard of a professional, it is true. I will say that if it wasnt for that people wouldnt be able to do the job for very long and then who would?

I don't know anything about former Warden Willett and don't care for the way he runs the museum, but it looks to me like he is just trying to make a buck. Wardens chosen to operate death row are usually selected for their ability to cover-up mistakes. For examples, look at former death row Warden James Jones or the one(s) who replaced him. I don't see any problem with him making jokes as way to gloss over his inability to speak. Wonder who wrote the books for Willett?

Insane....and anotrher glaring reason why the media is NOT YOUR FRIEND! NO ONE can understand what these people go through carying out the final stages of this death sentence without having done it themselves. There probably should never be.....I must stop there. This board is also a form of media. I do appreciate this board for many reasons but to air out death penalty wherewithall anywhere simply is not right. Some things just should not be aired out. I will have my critics for such a post......and they are the reason some things should not be aired out.

Very strange speech indeed. Regular people never get the "insider" stories/jokes etc, necessary to survive doing a job that you might not enjoy doing but do anyway. Same sort of stories/jokes happen in all job. Go ride with firefighters, EMS, police etc they all have gallows humor. The public never understands, but will raise all sort of righteous hell about the comments. Same thing happens within the walls. The speech would have gone over very well at a directors meeting !

Give the man a break. How one man deals with a stressful situation is his own. I read Jim's book and thought he handled it well. He is a christian man, and had reservations about his job, but served the state of Texas like a pro. These liberal conservatives need to get a life..
