Outcome from John Sealy escape

So.....what ever happened in the outfall of the investigation of the most recent escape from the hospital in Galveston? Another cover up with tax payers baring the brunt of the deal? Does there have to be another incident like the Connally Seven and officer Aubrey Hawkins before you guys will get it right? Just askin'

Escapes. Incompetance is the norm at TDCJ-ID

Every year there are escapes and the escape rate appears to be increasing. As for as hiring low class people to be officers; officers have always been toward the bottom of the socio-economic scale. It may be changing in the federal sector. It is changing in the state sector too. This is because, to the dismay of the lower class people who were bred into TDCJ, better educated and higher class immigrants are succeeding as Correctional Officers. The influence of the lower class officers that infested TDCJ-ID many decades ago continues to pull the agency down.

And what exactly is TDCJ suppose to do? Shut the gate after the cows have gotten out? How can TDCJ be expected to run a secure facility when put under the contraints of low pay and EEO requirements that encourage the hiring of low class people.

Kills the morale of good honest staff and increases their work load also.

How bout this taxpayer. Texas has the lowest escape rate in the nation. In the past 50 years there is only one fugitive from the TDC, he left from the Garza unit and is in mexico, all others have been returned to the custody of the State of Texas, either walking or carried in a box. There is no other state that can say that, most states and the feds don't even look. You bring up Aubrey Hawkins, a tragedy to be sure, but how many New York(approx. 1275 at last cound) escapees have done harm to people while they were out. Inmates are gonna escape that is the nature of the business, they escape from every prison from every state from every country, when you pen a human up he wants to get free and some are gonna be successful. All the prison can do is try to find him and bring him back, and Texas is the most successful at that task. So when are we gonna get it right, never, it is inevitable that there will be escapes as long as there are invarverated felons, but we have the best record, or the most right around.

Relax dude. You get what you pay for. You want more "security?" Tell you fellow taxpayers and those dead-beats in Austin to get out the check-book, hire some employees that can multi-task and don't mind putting in a full days work for a full days pay.

Absolutely NOTHING has happened nor changed since the escape. The same people have their rank and the same officers are still working. Basically the TAX payers of Texas bear the bill for another screw up thanks to the TDCJ...

Nothing is free. This is not the first escape in your agencies history. You keep having them....when is THAT going to change?

Hey Mr Taxpayer(JERK)

If you would have done your research CORRECTLY you would have found out that the escape the happened in the Hospital Galveston Unit in Galveston was the first one that had happened on that unit in the over 20+ years that it has been down there. I would suggest that you would have read other posts that talked about the escape. TDCJ has had several escapes in their past, but can you tell me of ANY prison that has never had an escape?? I will be waiting for your answer. The Officers at these units do their best to keep the convicts behind bars, but things do happen and people do escape..

Dear taxpayer:,,,if you think you can fix it,,,why dont you walk in the OFFICERS shoes for once,,(BET UR BOTTOM, YOU WOULD QUIT!) do something about it,,and apply with TDCJ. If your so concerned! Inmates dont pay taxes.....they live for free. And,,,WE OFFICERS,,,,pay TAXES which go to your foodstamps/welfare,,etc. Once, again someone on the outside, trying to look in!!! PLEAZ!!

See that may be the problem. Instead of playing the juvenile games you are playing you should own up to failure and fix the problem. It is obvious that a convicted felon left your custody. Your primary concern is to keep me safe and it did not happen. That is why I am concerned. No amount of money is worth your inability to maintain custody of that inmate. Sure certain that you kept 150,000 behind bars but you did not keep that one. That one counts big. The other 150,000 you kept mean nothing. That is your job. Step up to the plate and earn your keep. I do not need government assistance in the way of a hand-out or job. I make well in excess of 6 figures. You are right. I would not have that job. I am an educated professional and worth more than the state is willing to pay.

You are sounding quite like an educated IDIOT on here. You know NOTHING of what officers do at the units in TDCJ. All you know is what you hear on the news or read in the newspapers. You have NEVER been a correctional officer, so you know nothing about the job that they do. If you have a suggestion, then YOU need to step up and come up with a solution to the problems in TDCJ. I could care less that you get a 6 figure salary, or might be well educated. Are you saying that officers arent educated? You sound like the typical armchair quarterback that knows NOTHING about what you speak about. Get educated on what goes on inside of TDCJ...

You seem to be blaming officers on every unit for the 1 escape that happened last month in Galveston. I believe that 1 escape out of about 150,000+ prisoners is not going to end the world. Yes it is bad that it happened, but escapes will continue to happen and there is nothing that can really be done about it. Convicts have 24 hrs to figure a way to get out of prisons in the U.S.

Step up to the plate and share all that knowledge, I MEAN FACT, instead of all that opinion, I MEAN HOT AIR. Maybe you should do your research like the post before said, you odviousally don't have a clue to be so EDUCATED. Go spend some of those so called 6 FIGURES and have someone do the research for you since you cant seem to get off your backside and do it yourself. Are you a voter, do you vote??? Hey Big jerk of taxpayer you really have no idea what any Correctional Officer's day is like. You seem to think that it's so easy to keep all of these people in line and keep them all behind bars 24 hours a day. If you only knew that quite a bit of these inmates do come out from behind the fences to work on a daily basis. A lot of them live on the outside of the prison units who are known to all of us as trustee's. If your smart self knew anything about how it really is at any prison in this nation, perhaps you might get a better idea what it's really like to do this job. Mr. six figures!!! Nobody cares how much money you make, and no one really gives a crap what you think. Talk to your congressman and legislators about paying Correctional Officer's here in this great state of Texas a lot more that we deserve. Instead of over paying all of the overhead that just watch people do all of the work. Go back to your computer today and do your research about how we're the lowest paid Correctional Officer's and yet Texas has one of the largest prison systems in the USA. So stop all of your crying about us doing our jobs whenever you have no idea what our daily routines really are like. Almost sounds like Whitmires crying about the calls that he got from that death row inmate.

So, to carry your logic forward one more step. I suppose you're saying, since we pay police officers to enforce our laws and protect the citizenry, there should be no crime? I mean, if we're paying for police, and they're properly doing they're job - the one our tax dollars fund - correctly, we should never have to worry about crime anymore. And if we do, it's all because the police officers who are out there risking their lives just aren't working hard enough, right?
That's the most ignorant position I've seen a self-proclaimed 'educated' person take in quite some time. Think about that next time you get a speeding ticket. Don't get mad. That officer is just trying to work harder and protect the rest of us, while you, speeding, are posing a threat to my safety and security.
Anything else is unacceptable. Right?

With all due respect I am a tax payer to and I am a correctional officer also. It is easy to cast judgement if you haven't had the chance to walk in some one elses shoes. Any time an escape happens or an officer is arrested it gives all correctional employees a black eye. It is hard to explain what we go through to some one that has never worked in a prison setting. FRom working short handed and having to take short cuts all the while the admin. knows whats going on and turns a blind eye telling the public that we are fully staffed but they don't tell you that they have cut our staffing plan thus making us have to take short cuts which is all good until something bad happens then they shift the blame to every one but themselves. They preach morals and ethics and it is a shame they don't practice what they preach and take responsabilty for their short comings instead of shifting the blame for everything bad that happens in the agency.
