Family first. I retired at Major's level and I can tell you that the job did a beating on my family when I had to dedicate myself to the job beyond regular working hours. When I was a Lt. we would be called back to work for misunderstandings and until we went back to the unit and "fixed" the problem we were though to be accountable for other's misunderstanding. Conversely....a missing key at the end of shift, UOF, Death, PHD due to fight or other activity, Staff problem, or selling BBQ to go to Covey training (you may not understand that one) will keep you away from treasured family time. It is a part of the job at LT's level. If you are not ready for the institution to be your second wife/husband, you should accept the Sgt's position or regular CO's position until you are ready! It is what it is!
