Don't feel so bad about TDCJ, seems the whole country is poorly trained!
From a Associated Press news story.
Weapons failed US troops during Afghan firefight
"My weapon was overheating," McKaig said, according to Cubbison's report. "I had shot about 12 magazines by this point already and it had only been about a half hour or so into the fight. I couldn't charge my weapon and put another round in because it was too hot, so I got mad and threw my weapon down."
He had fired 360 rounds in about 30 minutes? That is a sustained fire rate of 12 rounds a minute! I can not believe he acquired targets at one every 5 seconds for thirty minutes. It is obvious he was not aiming and was just wasting ammo. "AND HE THREW DOWN HIS WEAPON"? Now that was sure professional!
We were taught early in our training to aim, guess he didn't hear that part. It is no wonder they got overrun.
I never cared for the M16 or any of it children but I don't think the weapon failed. The soldier failed, and it has to be the lack of training.
The Army needs to go back to one shot one kill training. I wonder how many rounds were fired in this fire fight and what was the kill to round average? I bet it was in the tens of thousands, or higher!
If sergeant York had this average of rounds to kills, he would be an unknown dog face.
