Overpowering a small tank cap usually causes power arcing in the main gap or safety gap and the coil fails to operate properly. I'd suggest plugging in some of your system's parameters into a good design aid tool such as Bart Anderson's JavaTC, TeslaPro, or TCPlan - see: I could also do an analysis of your system, but I'd need a bit more information. What is the diameter, type of wire, wire gauge, and winding length of your secondary, and is it closewound? Best regards, -- Bert --
