Sounds like a challenging project! Unfortunately, most of my experience is with high power spark gap and transmitting tube type coils, but I'll try to provide some suggestions.
It should be possible to use a similar design approach as those used in higher power solid state systems, but you'll need to scale output power downwards. Although a Dual Resonant SSTC (DRSSTC) could be used, for better audio fidelity and power efficiency, you may be interested in using a Pulse Width Modulated Class D or Class E architecture.
