Ethymology of the word Tajik

Hello

Has the root of "Tajik" been finaly ascertained? The most reasonable explanations are these:
1-The traditional view that it is another form of Tazik coming from Tazi the persian for an Arab.
2-Recent more plausible view that it is a Turkish word being originaly Tat-jiq,dimiunitive for the word tat.
Has the discussion ended on the topic?
