Posted by Iran-Najod on May 10, 2007, 5:42 am Iran-Cooperation-Tajikistan According to the 13-Article statement, which was inked by the Tajik president and President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the two countries condemned all global threats including various types of terrorism, separatism and extremism. Meanwhile, both countries reiterated the need to promote peace and tranquility based on justice, spirituality and stability. They also declared their readiness for cooperation with each other as well as participation in multilateral projects concerning campaign against all kinds of threats. The two sides also supported the efforts of Afghanistan to establish sustainable peace and stability in this country and urged the need to implement the tripartite Iran-Tajikistan-Afghanistan memorandum of understanding on cooperation in economic fields and campaign against drug trafficking and terrorism. Based on the issued statement, Tajikistan underlined the right of NPT member states to access nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. Tajikistan also declared its support for Iran's cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency, adding that the relevant nuclear problem can only be resolved within the IAEA framework through talks. Both countries have urged the need to respect the sovereignty, territorial integrity and political independence of Iraq and the requirement to assist the Iraqi government and nation to promote national peace and security. Besides, the global assemblies, in particular regional and international bodies are urged to play a more active role to this end. It added that talks between the two presidents were held in a friendly atmosphere with mutual understanding where matters of concern to both sides were discussed. The statement also supported Iran's call for full membership in Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). It also underlined that given the appropriate capacities and grounds for expansion of bilateral economic and trade ties, establishment of Iran's Trade Center in Dushanbe, Iran's direct participation in investment and implementation of Sangtoudeh 2 power plant project in Tajikistan should be expedited. The Tajik president, heading an economic delegation, arrived in Tehran on Monday. During his stay in Tehran, Rakhmon conferred with high-ranking Iranian officials on matters of mutual interest. At the end of his three-day visit to Iran, President Rakhmon was officially seen off by his Iranian counterpart.

A statement issued at the end of Tajik President Emomali Rakhmon's visit to Tehran underlined the need for continuous cooperation between the two states to strengthen peace, stability and security of the region and world.
