In his speech at TOBB-DEIK meeting, Erdogan said, “Our economic relations show that we have not fully benefited from our mutual potential. Turkish and Saudi private sectors have to improve the level of economic relations. The governments are ready to help.” Pointing at the recent gains in the economy and Turkey’s place in global markets; Erdogan called on Saudi businessmen to expand investments in Turkey and said, “We hope Turkish businessmen will increase their investments in Saudi Arabia.” Erdogan mentioned great efforts made for the legal matters between the two countries and added that creating a free trade zone with Arab countries is a priority for Turkey. Turkey aims to successfully finalize the free trade zone agreements with The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Customs Union members including Saudi Arabia. “It is essential to make visas easier for businessmen if we want to enhance our partnership”, Erdogan said, adding Turkey will be pleased to join the consortia of comprehensive projects including the King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC). In his speech, King Abdullah, who was introduced as “Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques” by Economic Relations Board Chairman Rifat Hisarciklioglu, called Erdogan his “valuable friend.” Like Erdogan, Abdullah also referred to importance of joint investments of Turkish and Saudi businessmen. The King said that more than 50,000 Saudi tourists visited Turkey last year. There are many Turks employed in Saudi Arabia King Abdullah said, and added: “We expect an increase in the number of contractor companies. As two brother countries, Turkey and Saudi Arabia are determined to reach our common targets. We want our businessmen to increase investments mutually and pursue joint projects. Turkish and Saudi businessmen should work for the development and prosperity of the two nations.”
