This is what it should look like from the side when you turn the handle halfway round, until it's furthest away from the orange triangle mark:
If you turn the handle another quarter turn, it should look like this underneath, looking from the back to the front of the carriage:
On mine, those two metal bits that meet together at the top to form a point, sometimes get bent and I have to bend them back again to get them to meet.
