The other day I had water pouring out of my light fixture from the toilet on the 2nd floor, or that's what I thought. I was standing underneath the light fixture and got a drop on my head. Hmmm, that's strange thought me. I looked up and got another drop right in the eye. Not a fun thing. So, I called in a plumber and he said he didn't have a clue, but still charged me a $147.00 for the service call for half an hour. I protested and it didn't do me any good cause up front they said they were going to charge that per hour. I figured between the plumber at $132.00 per hour plus tax, carpenter and painter it was going to cost in the thousands. So, I said phooey on this and took a hammer to the ceiling and knocked out about six square feet. I determined it wasn't a water pipe under pressure leak, or it would have kept on leaking. Next, I removed the toilet and poured H2O down the hole. No leak. So, I surmised it must have been the wax ring connection. To check it all out, I flushed the other toilet and poured water down the hole the same time. Bingo, I found an old leak, but it wasn't the major leak that made me tear up the ceiling to find out why water was coming from the light fixture. Inside the ceiling, I found some black mold the kind that made a friend of mine sick. I wasn't aware of it till I handled a large piece of wallboard which had the mold on the other side. That was apparently from an old leak that was there for some time and really didn't show up but only maybe one every two year with a little brown spot on the ceiling. Anyway, I reset the toilet thinking it must have been a defective wax seal and rubber clamped the old leaking area in another location where there is an old lead waste pipe and put it all back together. Now, I'm finishing up closing the hole made in the ceiling with plaster and spackle and smoothing it all off. The next few weeks will be the big test to see if I did the right thing. I HATE PLUMBING.
BTW, the kind of black mold that makes you really sick is the kind that adheres and grows on paper, wallboard and cellulose. If you see mold on old newspaper, or any kind of paper backing that has gotten wet, beware!! The kind of mold you see in the bathroom isn't that type of mold that will kill, or harm you, for the most part.

For those who might be late comers to this board, Dory was a poster who we will remember as one who gave of herself so others survivors might smile. She always kept this board moving with her inspirational poems, jokes and riddles. Most will give Dory credit for energizing this board. She was an inspiration to everyone on this board. In that spirit, let us
continue to post in Dory’s memory so she might smile down on us and give us the same inspiration. Therefore, we have named the board, Dory's Board, in her memory. 11/11/01 (Dory was the first to call attention to the significance of 9/11, re: WTC tragedy, i.e. 911 for emergency). Let me be the first to note all the ones in the above date, indicating she was No. 1 on our board.
