Hi David,
This poll is a good idea. Health care in our country does need to be reworked. Access to health care is very sketchy and when some folks finally have the necessary insurance they are sicker and a more costly user of the system.
For years our system has relied on a postvention method of health care delivery rather than prevention. This is a "gift" to pharmaceutical companies. They can shuffle through a bag of $$$$ "fix its" for all of us who have lifestyles that play right into their profit margin. In the rework of health care a major emphasis will be placed on prevention. Also the time will be shortened for drugs to become available as "generics". The time line now is way too long. Trials of the current Rx meds and ongoing scientific observation have shown this to be true.
"Nothing is wrong with our health care system" Of course that is ludicrous. Just ask the worker who has just lost his job or the student who is too old to be on parents insurance....or the patient who is refused insurance because of a pre-existing condition...or the elderly person who cannot afford supplemental insurance. Just ask them.
The effort today has been on the discussion table for at least 30 years. Now despite "fix it" patches that still allow exorbitant profits for drug and insurance companies our country has masses of uninsured people who are major health care users who use Emergency Departments as their primary health care provider. Community clinics would be part of access solutions in a new health care initiative. A much better cost containment effort and much more acceptable to most currently uninsured folks.
As a nurse and bc patient I have cringed at the cost of my specialized health care. I am adequately insured but all those others who need specialized health care and are not insured or "weakly" insured either "do without" or incur massive debt. Yes we do have a great health care system but only for those who can afford it.
We all need to become involved in understanding all the proposals currently a part of health care reform legislation in its present form. Copies of the proposed legislation are available from all congressional elects. Fact from fiction can be separated out by such information. I for one refuse to rely on the biased information that is being sent out. It is my sincere hope that a studied, reasonable and carefully timed approach to any legislation be observed. We have to get it right and this is the time to start.
Wow David...that response was long-winded. I guess this has been a "scab on a sore" that I have been picking at for a long time.

For those who might be late comers to this board, Dory was a poster who we will remember as one who gave of herself so others survivors might smile. She always kept this board moving with her inspirational poems, jokes and riddles. Most will give Dory credit for energizing this board. She was an inspiration to everyone on this board. In that spirit, let us
continue to post in Dory’s memory so she might smile down on us and give us the same inspiration. Therefore, we have named the board, Dory's Board, in her memory. 11/11/01 (Dory was the first to call attention to the significance of 9/11, re: WTC tragedy, i.e. 911 for emergency). Let me be the first to note all the ones in the above date, indicating she was No. 1 on our board.
