I have a new doctor now he is younger and more up to date on cancer drugs. I have had two sessions now on gemzar and the tumor that I can feel, feels the same size it was 3 weeks ago. Tomorrow is another session if bloodwork comes back ok. Platelets were really really low last time and they almost cancelled last weeks session. Pray the bloodwork comes back ok. The only other cancer treatment center that I could go to is clear across the state at University of Michigan and I'm not going to do that. My local hospital has a cancer treatment center and is becoming a teaching hospital this coming year. My previous medical oncologist retired december 17th, so last November i talked to the other medical oncologists and chose one them to be my new doctor. He told me not to give up, becuase he isn't about to give up on me. All the recurrences has been on the left side in the same area of the original tumor. He is going to do 4 cycles of gemzar then redo the petscan to see if it is working and if it is continue it. If not he will try something else. He said to me "you have to play doctor for me and keep an eye on that one tumor you can feel and let me know if it is getting bigger of shrinking or staying the same." I check that one tumor weekly, if I did it more then that I may not notice if there is a difference. I am also recovering from an automobile accident I had Nov 30th. I have two broken ribs on the left side (radiated side) ribs 3 &4, and one cracked (but not broken clean thru) rib, down by my abdomin. I was hit by a drunk driver at 10 in the morning. He was arrest on multiple charges. My ribs will take longer to heal due to all the radiation they have had. Med oncologist said it could take up to 6 months to heal because the bones are so brittle now. All I know is they hurt like the dickens.
