Most insurance won't pay for a PET scan unless there's a reason. They are extremely expensive. I had an MRI once for shoulder pain that lasted for a couple of months. A routine scan typically is rejected by insurance without some type of pain. Or at least that's what I've been told.
A PET scan won't pick up all tumors, especially if they are small, and sometimes will give a false positive.
Yes, earlier is better, but no real test can show a recurrence in most cases until a tumor is a specific size. Keep hoping for a blood test!
