I had chemo, lumpectomy (more than one),and radiation. Whenever a procedure is recommended, it's always best to examine both sides of the issue. I would have a conversation with the onc about whatever your hesitation is. I would also be forthright in asking questions, such as how much will radiation reduce my risk for recurrence? How much will it increase my survival rate? And will radiation put me at risk for other cancers, and if so, what is the calculated risk? What are the side effects? (He/she will likely tell you a burn (most women who have had a lumpectomy have only a slight burn) and fatigue, which is also very individual. Hope that helps.
